Biomechanic modelling, computer based as well as experimental simulation are essential tools for the development, verification and validation of new implants and surgical therapy concepts in orthopaedics. Novel concepts of computer and robot based hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) simulators provide an even higher flexibility e.g. in terms of model based experimental multi-parameter studies. The goal of the two advanced educational workshops on biomechanics (A1: hip & knee /spine; A5: shoulder & wrist) is to discuss actual approaches in this domain and its potential in the Computer Assisted Orthopaedic Science and Surgery.
